We’re sure you’ve all been keeping up to date with the 2021 Budget unveiled by Chancellor Rishi Sunak in the House of Commons.  As we look ahead to life on the other side of the pandemic, the Chancellor released several initiatives that look to have a hugely positive impact on the North East, and in particular, the Tees valley region.

As a growing business with a keen focus on a ‘North East first’ strategy and a strong attachment to the Tees Valley region, today’s announcements provide a massive amount of motivation to our efforts and validation that CyberWhite are in the right region at the right time!

Key Points for the North East in the 2021 Budget

New Treasury Jobs for Darlington

Rishi Sunak announced that the government’s new Treasury campus will be located in Darlington.  This announcement means that 750 civil servant positions will now be in the market town. This marks a significant achievement for Darlington as it beat off competition from Newcastle, Leeds and Bradford as the government seeks to rebalance the UK’s economic investment.

Freeport

Another extremely significant announcement from the Budget was the news that 8 Freeports have been given the ‘green light’ with Teesside being awarded the biggest of the Freeports.  The other 7 locations to join Teesside are; East Midlands Airport, Felixstowe, Humber, Liverpool City Region, Plymouth, Solent and Thames.

It is anticipated that the Teesside Freeport will create 18,000 skilled jobs within five years, boost the local economy by £34billion and, significantly for the region, will deliver a shift in career focus for the next working generation, with ‘green’ energy and advanced manufacturing sector jobs being created.

As a company with strong links to the Teesside region, CyberWhite are thrilled with this news, both in the short-term, but the long-term too.  Short-term, the increase in job creation and tax incentives designed to bring in new businesses, construction and sustainable inward investment to the region.

Longer term, this provides a significant beacon of hope to the next generation of workers based in and around Teesside. Young people in the region will be able to see that the region is looking towards a new future where it isn’t fighting to keep its steel works alive, but looking into clean energy production and advanced manufacturing sectors that will raise the profile and aspirations of Teesside.

CyberWhite Growth

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, CyberWhite have always been proud that we have been able to continue our operations and stay true to our commitment of serving our clients throughout the North East and UK, by improving cyber security. We are also excited to announce that lockdown measures have not dampened our strategic plans to continue our company growth.

In-line with the UK government’s plans to place Teesside as a vital location to grow the UK’s economy post covid and post Brexit, we can announce that we are in advanced discussions to open an office location in the Tees Valley, ensuring that we will be perfectly placed to aid and advise companies on their cyber security needs as the area attracts new and upward investment.
